In a 3-1 victory against the Montreal Canadiens this past weekend, Bruins forward David Pastrnak scored an absolute laser beam of a goal for his 25th of the season. Pastrnak currently leads the league in goals and has scored five more goals than Alex Ovechkin who has the second most goals in the league with 20. Pastrnak is also 4th in the NHL with 42 points and is 9 points off of Connor McDavid in first place with 51 points. As far as the goals go though, Pastrnak is in elite company right now. Pastrnak became just the fourth player ever to score 12 plus goals in back to back months to start a season. The only other players who have done this are Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Mike Bossy. Yes, that Wayne Gretzky. If you told me last year that Pastrnak would be producing at the same rate Wayne Gretzky did I’d say you were on crack. Pastrnak managed to score 25 goals in a mere 27 games, the third fewest games anyone has ever done this. Pastrnak is averaging almost a goal a game and at his current rate, is on pace to finish the regular season with an incredible 78 goals. That number may be out of reach, but it doesn’t seem out of the question now to see Pastrnak finishing the season scoring around 60 goals. All I’m saying is, David Pastrnak is finally proving that he truly is a special talent and he is finally rewarding the Bruins who took a chance and drafted him in the first round of the 2014 NHL Draft. We are witnessing goal scoring greatness this season from an incredibly talented player and it will be very interesting to see if Pastrnak can keep up this elite goal scoring form come playoff time this spring.
